Code In The Dark is a competitive coding competition, pitting some of the best front-end developers against one another in a head to head battle for supremacy! With a live audience, no previews allowed, and a knockout competition format, CITD is an exciting event set to EDM and lasers.
This particular event was the first of its kind in the UK and it fell to me to document the night as it unfolded.
Working solo in the dark, capturing exciting shots and talking head vox-pops, I was pleased with the final result.
Code In The Dark UK has since been held in Leeds following this events success in 2016.
The Grade.
The lasers, smoke and event stage setup lent itself to smooth cinematic shots. The video then really came to life in the edit. With the addition of glitchy, neon motion graphic overlays, it became clear the the colour scheme for the event should be bright, glowing and exciting.
The palette subsequently took influence from the heavily saturated lasers, and the cool blue glow from the coders’ screens.
